SOCIAL LISTENING


A company that is always in the media for their product and product design is Apple. When the new iPhone was coming out there were many people hating on it and making memes about it. With the iPhone 11 pro, people were comparing the three cameras on the back of the phone to a stovetop and making a bunch of other jokes about it. This product is very interesting though, it seems that the more people make jokes and memes about the new iPhones the more people want to go out and purchase it. Apple's value proposition is that they have the best smartphone on the market. Which is what the do, for the most part, at least that's what they make people think. Three things that people have been saying about the new iPhone;
1. It's the exact same phone they released the past few years
2. Its too expensive
3. It looks like a stovetop

The thing about apple is that they are always going to receive hate no matter if their product is good or bad. But the more that people talk about the new product, whatever it may be, the better their marketing plan really is. Even when people are making memes about the product like the iPhone, it is showing off the new phone to more and more people. It gets people talking about it. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple made their products look a certain way so people will create memes about it and talk about it even more. The same thing happened to the new air pods, people were saying they looked like a pokemon which got a lot of people talking.

Apple doesn't really respond to what people say about their products. They know what they are doing so I think it is smart that they don't respond. 

This assignment really shows how making great products look a little off to make people talking can really benefit and be used for free publicity/advertisement.

Marketing in the News

While browsing the web Sunday night for a marketing article to read about, I stumbled on an article titled The Future of Small Business Marketing. The title really brought me in at first because in the BA 223 principals of marketing we are trying to build a marketing plan for a local small business and I thought that this article might help out a bit. This article was a very interesting read and is an essential read to many small business owners. The article states that 46% of small businesses don't even own a website and those that do list gaining new customers as their second biggest concern. Creating a web page and doing digital advertising is essential in today's market. In a market that is getting harder and harder to be seen in, your company needs to be alive and greeting new visitors. Many small businesses are struggling to overcome change, which is extremely important in today's market with how quickly everything is changing. Something that all small businesses need to start with is just creating a website that will engage people and guide them easily to where they want to go. Also, they need to create a mail list and start tracking people's data such as; email, birthdate, what the view on the website, etc. This will help learn your target and gear your advertisements to them. One of the easiest ways to reach people is by sending them a discount code on their birthday.

About Me (Jake Bunn)

My name is Jake Bunn and I am a Junior at Oregon State university. I enrolled in this marketing course because I needed it for the major I am pursuing which is Finance. I used to be a marketing major before I switched over, so I am definitely interested in marketing. One thing I am looking to learn about in marketing is what companies target markets are and what specific traits make them market certain ways.
